Provence may be the most romantic area on the entire earth, and this autumn I was lucky enough to spend an entire week exploring the region with my boyfriend! I made me feel like a princess stepping right into the 18th century.

We kicked off our trip with a magnificent Garry Gilmour concert at Theatre Antique in Orange and continued to Gordes (a beautiful old village, perched on the southern edge of the high Plateau de Vaucluse) and arrived in the middle of the night after hours of mountain driving. Little did we know, that we might as well could have been arriving in a ghost town – as literally everything was closed down during the night. Including our hotel! We tried everything, but failed to get in touch with our hotel.. And that’s how we ended up at magnificent La Bastide De Gordes – the only hotel awake in town.

Everything about that place turned out to be phenomenal. Your room, the extraordinary hotel decor, the tremendous views and the traditionally dressed staff - will all together make you feel like you're staying at a castle in the 18th century.. Or in the caves at the side of a mountain - which you actually are. I have to say that I feel sincerely grateful that our original hotel was closed that night.

Next we took a beautiful road down the French Riviera, ate a lovely seaside lunch and headed towards the Grand Canyon of Europe – Gorge Du Verdon. We arrived just in time for a beautiful sunset and a lovely dinner at our cliff side hotel: Hotel Du Grand Canyon. The next couple of days we spend hiking and exploring the beautiful canyon. Among the highlights we spend an afternoon kayaking down the Verdon River!
